Lately, as new issues surface and things continue to change, I find myself feeling stuck, sometimes overwhelmed, and disappointed that I’m not showing up as I would expect.
When I find myself going down that rathole, I shift my internal dialogue and remind myself during these uncertain times, there is no road map, no owner’s manual, and no one right way to do anything.
Becoming aware of your feelings is the first step. Once you’re aware, you have the power to choose what happens next.
Here are 4 ways I’ve learned to stay balanced when things are uncertain:
Pace yourself. The best way to pace yourself is to prioritize your “-to-do” list. Each morning, make a list of the things that MUST be done, followed by the list of things that CAN be done but that can also wait. Take it one project or task at a time and stay focused on it until it’s finished.
Budget time for self-care. Self-care is not selfish, it’s selfless. Budget one thing every day just for YOU. It could be a walk, yoga, meditation, a HIIT class, 30-minutes of reading, watching your favorite show or taking a nap. It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as you prioritize it each day.
Cut yourself some slack. When you find the negative recording looping on repeat in your head because you didn’t get something done, press STOP. Think about what you might say to a friend in the same position and then say it to yourself.
Surround yourself with people who love you, support you and inspire you. There is no better medicine than the support of people who love you. Even if it’s only on Zoom, let the positivity of your favorite people lift you up, and it will.
How do you stay balanced? What strategies do you use? I’d love to know. Leave me a comment below.
If this resonated with you, I’d love it if you share it with your world.
